Merco, corporate monitor of corporate reputation that is a reference in more than 15 countries, released the ninth edition of the ESG Responsibility ranking, which presents the 100 companies with the best reputation evaluated for their actions in the environmental, social and governance areas in Brazil.

In this year’s list, McDonald’s reinforced its leadership in the restaurant sector, being the only food service chain present in the top 100. The company, operated by Arcos Dorados in Brazil and in 19 other countries in Latin America, is in 24th place in the general ranking, registering one of the biggest growths in this edition, with a jump of 40 positions compared to the previous year. This year, Merco also presented the companies that stood out in the practices of each of the ESG pillars, to provide an even more accurate assessment of each company’s reputation. In the Environmental (E) ranking, focused on the environment, McDonald’s won 10th place, closing the top ten along with large retail, technology and consumer goods companies.

Guided by the socio-environmental strategy called Recipe of the Future, Arcos Dorados is committed to using its scale and McDonald’s restaurants to generate a positive impact in the communities where it is present.

“We are proud of the people who put the Recipe of the Future into practice that we received this recognition. The presence in the ranking is the result of a long dedication to our people and to the preservation of the planet, which evolves every year. We complete this with responsible and transparent communication, which connects our audiences with the reality of our work”,

comments Mariana Scalzo, Director of Corporate Communication for the Brazil Division at Arcos Dorados.

Merco’s ESG Responsibility ranking methodology involves an initial interview with members of the top management of companies with revenues of more than 200 million reais per year in Brazil, who indicate the 10 companies with the best socio-environmental responsibility in the country according to their market knowledge.

From this first list, interviews are conducted with several other groups, including specialists in corporate social responsibility, financial analysts, NGOs, unions, consumer associations, economic journalists, government representatives and social media managers.
