O Thunder in the South Zone of Porto Alegre he was undefeated champion of Gaucho Series B Championship (Third) in 2022and currently leads the Gauchão A-2 (Access Division)with 12 points in four games under the command of coach Márcio Ebert. O club from Porto Alegre belongs to a group from Dubai, Monsoon VP Internationaland its main investor and CEO is Indian Sumant Sharma.
O curious name of the team comes from the word “monsoon”, which means strong wind and is Sumant’s tribute to a deceased friend. The team is affectionately known as Trovão da Zona Sul. Its shield is round, has the name of the institution, the inscription “Poa-Dubai” and carries the colors black, white and gold.
Currently, the club plays its games at the João da Silva Moreira stadium, Parque Lami. The association is chaired by Lucas Pires, director of Monsoon Sports & Entertainment and businessman in the MMA field, and has former player Da Silva as vice-president. besides the professional football, the directors bet on the creation of talent at the base, and already have under-17 and under-20 categories.
Monsoon seeks to reveal new football talents and build its professional squad with these players created at the base, who will go through the team’s internal processes and who have a connection with Trovão Azul.
With about 30 players in the core group, Monsoon’s dream is to compete in Série A do Gauchão and seek qualification for the Copa do Brasil and Série D do Brasileiro. Inspired by managements such as Bragantino and Athletico-PR, the club aims to gain national relevance and compete in major championships. O Jornal do Comércio spoke with vice-president Da Silva about building the club and its rapid rise in football in Rio Grande do Sul.
Jornal do Comércio – What makes Monsoon different?
DaSilva – The differential is in the work, in the vision of what they (Lucas Pires and Sumant Sharma) want to apply, which is totally different. I’m a former football player, I can tell you, I’ve experienced things that are totally different from what we apply here. Our goal is very clear: to reach the Gauchão Series A in 2024, and, in 2025, to win a place in the national Series D.
JC – What is the director’s dream for the future of the club?
DaSilva – Lucas and Sumant have a totally different view of football. They don’t like the term “long term” as they believe the long term is for people who want to stop working. So, since the day I took over here, he said: “I want to reveal players and fulfill the club’s objectives, which is to gain access”. Our environment is calm and light, but with a defined objective. We know that the athlete needs this. He needs to have a goal in life, that’s what we go through every day and that has paid off.
JC – Are organization and administration Monsoon’s strengths?
DaSilva – I believe that our differential is in the treatment. I can speak with authority, I played in the Grenal duo and in several teams, and I know what I received in other clubs and what we give here. We try to do it differently, not to be better, but different. Treat the athlete as a human being, not as a product. We understand that first we need to play our part and things naturally flow.
JC – How is the relationship built with the fans?
DaSilva – We are a neighborhood club and we have a very good interaction with the people here. People from the region work here because we provide opportunities. Rio Grande do Sul will hear a lot about us. We don’t want to be better, just different.
