The Ministry of Education (MEC) published this Wednesday (5), the ordinance that suspends for 60 days the implementation of the new secondary education for evaluation and restructuring of the program. The suspension was confirmed at a meeting between the Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, this Tuesday (4).

With the ordinance in force, there will be no change in the daily life of schools that already follow the guidelines of the new high school. Only the deadlines related to articles 4, 5, 6 and 7, which deal, respectively, with: implementation in educational establishments that offer secondary education of the new curricula, aligned with the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) and training itineraries will be suspended ; schedule referring to teaching materials and resources for the New High School, via the National Textbook Program (PNLD); alignment of the matrices of the Basic Education Evaluation System (Saeb) for the stage; and update of the Novo Enem evaluation matrix.

The suspension responds to pressure from education unions and student movements that ask for changes in the proposal approved in Congress, after the presentation of a Provisional Measure during the government of former President Michel Temer (MDB). Complete repeal would depend on a new assessment by deputies and senators.

In early March, the government announced that it would hold a public consultation for the evaluation and restructuring of the new high school, through public hearings, work meetings, seminars and surveys with students, teachers and school administrators. The consultation lasts for 90 days, with the possibility of a 30-day extension.
