French striker Kylian Mbappé said on Thursday (15) that staying at Paris Saint-Germain is his “only option at the moment”.
“I’ve already said that my objective is to stay at the club,” said Mbappé at a press conference in Faro, Portugal, on the eve of the match between France and Gibraltar, for the Euro 2024 qualifiers.
Mbappé, the France captain, has repeatedly and unsuccessfully asked questions about Friday’s game, but has been unable to avoid the question of his future, which dominated football news in France and Spain throughout the week. .
The player also stated that the French president, Emmanuel Macron, who on Wednesday (14) said he would try to convince him not to leave the country, has no influence on his career.
“In my career, today, in 2023, none. As I said, he said he wants me to stay in Paris, and so do I”, he commented.
Mbappé explained that the letter that confirmed to PSG his willingness not to exercise the option of an extra year at the club – already expressed, according to him, in July 2022 – for the 2024/25 season, reported in the press on Monday ( 12), was sent “before” the beginning of the concentration with the French team.
“There’s nothing to explain. People can criticize, analyze. It won’t be the noise from outside that will make me run away from my responsibility”, he opined.
The player also commented that the week was not difficult for him, as he is “used to pressure from a very young age”.
“My first concern is tomorrow’s game. What happens away is secondary,” he added.
The PSG and French national team striker again stated that he would like to compete in the Paris Olympics next year, which he said “would be a dream”, but stressed that he will not force the issue.
“I know that the dates are not in FIFA’s calendar. If I can play, it will be a pleasure, if not, what can I do?”, he said.
