Manaus (AM) – The mayor of Manaus, David Almeida, delivered, this Tuesday afternoon (1), 14 new collective buses, continuing the plan to renew the city’s fleet. With the acquisitions, municipal management reached the mark of 40 vehicles purchased in 2023 and, according to the head of the municipal executive, the goal is to deliver another 110 by the end of this year.

The action took place at the Ponta Negra tourist complex, in the West zone of the capital, and was attended by the CEO of the Municipal Institute of Urban Mobility (IMMU), Paulo Henrique Martins.

David Almeida explained that reaching the goal set for 2023, his administration will total 286 new vehicles introduced in the Manaus fleet, all with air conditioning.

“When we took office, we didn’t have air-conditioned buses. Today, we have more than 200. We delivered 14 more out of a total of 150 buses that we will deliver by the end of this year. It is noteworthy that of these, 12 will be electric and should arrive next month in our city. These buses we are delivering are special. Manaus is the first Brazilian capital to use them. These vehicles are 60 times less polluting than those manufactured 10 years ago, benefiting the environment. This is part of the city’s fleet renewal program that will bring quality service to our population”, emphasized Almeida.

The buses, of the conventional type, are equipped with air conditioning and ramps for wheelchair users, providing greater comfort to passengers. In addition, they have pneumatic suspension and are assembled with Marcopolo bodywork.

Security cameras will also be installed in the new buses. These additional features make traveling more enjoyable, accessible and safer, especially for those with limited mobility.

According to the CEO of IMMU, Paulo Henrique Martins, the renewal of the fleet was essential to reduce the number of vehicles broken down due to lack of maintenance on the city’s roads.

“We received a very aging fleet that faced many vehicle breakdowns. Today, this is not a reality in the city of Manaus. We have almost no vehicle problems due to lack of maintenance. This is the result of the policy implemented by Mayor David Almeida. In addition, all these vehicles are already arriving with the left door system, which will allow us to implement the central stops, mainly on the main roads such as Torquato Tapajós and Cosme Ferreira avenues, which speeds up travel and makes the day to day easier. users’ day”, explained Martins.

The new colectivos will join the existing fleet, which currently includes 1,166 buses distributed in 218 lines, serving all areas of the city, including rural areas. The capital’s transport system registers more than 500,000 daily passages, reflecting the importance of public transport in the daily lives of citizens.

The ongoing renovation demonstrates the administration’s commitment to improving the quality of public transport, meeting the needs of both urban residents and users in rural areas.
