Brazil was left over from Guinea with a 4-1 victory at the Cornellà-El Prat stadium, in Barcelona (Spain), this Saturday (17). Joelinton, Rodrygo, Éder Mitão and Vinícius Júnior, the protagonist of the match with the number 10, scored for the Canarinho team, and Guirassy discounted for Guinea. The match was full of demonstrations against racism in solidarity with Vini Jr., the repeated target of racist insults in the Spanish Championship, the last of them on May 21.
However, even before the ball rolled in Barcelona, another case of racism was registered in the stadium. This time the victim was Felipe Silveira, personal advisor and friend of Vini Jr. After going through the entrance roulette, Felipe said he was approached by a security guard who allegedly pointed a banana at him and said: “Hands up, this one is my pistol for you”. There was confusion and the police were called. The situation was filmed by reporter Eric Faria from TV Globo and the images were broadcast by the broadcaster before the match.
Brazil played the first half with an all-black uniform, an unprecedented fact in the 109-year history of the selection. In addition to the initiative, banners with the words “With racism there is no game” were extended at various points in the stands and anti-racist messages were stamped on the stadium’s screens. Before the opening whistle, all players remained on their knees for one minute in protest against racism.
Brazil returns to the field at 4 pm next Tuesday (20), at 4 pm (Brasilia time for another friendly match. The team will face Senegal, at the Alvalade Stadium, in Lisbon (Portugal).
