Marta experienced an unusual situation this Monday (24). The Queen of Football started the World Cup on the bench of the Brazilian national team. She entered the field only in the second half and had a discreet performance. Even with the few minutes on the field, the striker left the match between smiles and praise for the team and Ary Borges, the highlight of the 4-0 defeat of Panama, in the city of Adelaide, Australia.
Marta praised the collective work, of constant collaboration between the players, throughout the 90 minutes. “I think the whole game showed that”, she commented, in an interview with the channel SportTV. “What we created today is a collective work that we’ve been doing for a long time. I hope it will continue like this throughout the entire Cup and that it will continue until the end so that, who knows, we can win the title we’ve dreamed of.”
The attacker also exalted the team’s offensive posture, even when the scoreboard already recorded the rout. “After we scored the fourth goal, we went for it, we kept trying to do more. The girls who entered obviously wanted to score another goal, that’s normal. Because the game gave us that situation.”
Marta entered the field in the 29th minute of the second half. She replaced Ary Borges, who had scored three goals in the match. “I’m so happy for her. Scoring three goals in a debut isn’t that easy, she was blessed. In fact, she scored three goals and even gave an assist, so that’s almost four goals. If I hadn’t had such a perfect reading, I could have even tried to finish. It was very happy. I was honored to have entered her place.”
The next commitment of the Brazilians will be against the French team, one of the candidates for the World Cup title, on Saturday, at 7 am (Brasília time), in Brisbane, again in Australia.
