Federal deputy Mario Frias (PL-SP) chose MMA fighter Matheus Serafim to work in his office in the Chamber of Deputies. On his social networks, Serafim has already added to his biography that he will be a parliamentary advisor to the former special secretary of Culture in the government Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
The fighter is the son of businessman Antonio Francisco Serafim, who gained prominence as one of the names at the head of Fundac (Foundation for the Development of Arts and Communication), a company that had contracts worth tens of millions to operate TV Alesp, of the Legislative Assembly. of São Paulo, and TV Câmara, of the São Paulo City Council. In both cases, contract renewals without bidding were the target of criticism.
In the case of TV Alesp, Antonio Serafim’s proximity to PT parliamentarians, who headed the House’s communication department, came under the radar of opposition deputies.
In his photos on social networks, Serafim shows that he has transit in the political universes of São Paulo and Bolsonarism. In São Paulo, he took pictures with former mayor Bruno Covas (PSDB), and with the current one, Ricardo Nunes (MDB). He also appears in portraits with Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), Public Security Secretary Guilherme Derrite, São Bernardo City Councilor Paulo Chuchu (PRTB) and other allies of the former president.
In March of last year, he published a photo of a meeting with Mario Frias and his father in São Paulo.
Frias tried to forge political bridges with the martial arts during his tenure. In 2020, he spent BRL 39,000 of public funds on a five-day trip to New York to take care of a “cultural project involving audiovisual production, culture and sport” with the Bolsonarist jiu-jitsu fighter Renzo Gracie.
Frias’ chief of staff will be the armamentist Raphael Azevedo, who held the same position at the Special Secretariat for Culture.
