Senator-elect Rogério Marinho (PL-RN), candidate for the presidency of the Senate, is still holding talks with Senator Eduardo Girão (Podemos-CE), also a candidate, for support for his candidacy in the first round of voting. The objective is to secure the necessary votes to overcome the current president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), candidate for re-election. Girão would have between five and six votes, comments Senator Wellington Fagundes (PL-MT), one of Marinho’s coordinators.

In addition to the votes of Republican, PP and PL senators, Marinho also won the support of PSDB senators this Monday (30). Now, he also seeks the votes and support of Girão. Marinho and his coordinators believe in the possibility of victory, but do not reveal the strategy or where the votes for the election would come from. “We are talking to all those who want to hear us, I have been reaching out to the entire collegiate [de 81 senadores]”, he said this Monday, before a dinner organized by the PL for deputies and senators.

About the conversations with Girão, Marinho preached respect for the candidate. “Senator Eduardo has all the legitimacy of being a candidate, he has defended an agenda that characterizes his performance as a parliamentarian in his first four years as senator of the Republic and it is evident that we are in tune in the sense that, in a second round, we will be together “, he stated.
