Marinho seeks support to stop STF advances on prerogatives

This Thursday (25), when commenting on the recent police operations against members of the opposition, the senator and leader of the opposition in Congress, Senator Rogério Marinho (PL-RN), said he had spoken with the presidents of the Chamber and the Senate , Arthur Lira (PP-AL) and Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), about the advances in the actions of ministers of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) on the prerogatives of Parliament.

Marinho also said that he will seek out other leaders in Congress to debate the situation and look for ways to reestablish the balance between the Powers.

“We started the year with the search and seizure carried out in the office of deputy Carlos Jordy due to a telephone conversation that took place at the end of 2022, where he was called ‘my leader’ by the interlocutor. And this served as a necessary instrument to characterize and allow a search and seizure of his office and his residence. There is a coincidence, deputy Jordy is leader of the opposition in the Federal Chamber, the person presiding over the inquiry is minister Alexandre de Moraes, and he (Jordy) is a pre-candidate for mayor of Niterói. Today, a new search and seizure and another investigation against deputy Alexandre Ramagem, who is also from the PL and pre-candidate for mayor, in the city of Rio de Janeiro”, said Marinho.

The senator also highlighted that the suspicions raised against Ramagem date back to the time when he was director of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin) and, therefore, could not serve as justification for an operation now, during the parliamentarian’s mandate, according to the understanding of the STF itself on the privileged forum.

“There is a clear exceeding of the constitutional limit that was defined by the Federal Supreme Court itself. We are concerned about this situation because a pattern has been established. Lawyer Kakay (Antônio Carlos de Almeida Castro) recently published in a live that 18 parliamentarians, at some point, will suffer some form of action from the STF in the coming days”, said Marinho when highlighting the proximity of Kakay, a lawyer linked to the PT, with ministers from the Supreme Court.

Recently, Senator Rogério Marinho stated that the country does not live in a state of democratic normality.
