Marina Silva warns Petrobras about opposition to exploration at the mouth of the Amazon – News of Brazil

The Minister of the Environment, Marina Silva, warned the president of Petrobras, Jean Paul Prates, that she would take a stand against the proposal to look for oil at the mouth of the Amazon River.
Prates even got together with Marina to talk about the matter. The minister told him that there is not the slightest possibility of endorsing the Petrobras project.
In an interview with Eliane Brum, last month, Marina compared Petrobras’ idea to the construction of the Belo Monte power plant. The work was decisive in transforming Marina into an opponent of PT governments, which only ended in last year’s election campaign.
Petrobras wants authorization from Ibama to drill at the mouth of the Amazon River, with the aim of finding oil in the region. The minister of mines and energy, Alexandre Silveira, said that the project is the “passport to the future”.
In this region, which extends from Amapá to Rio Grande do Norte, 16 wells are to be drilled. The first of these will be the Morpho Well, located in Block FZA-M-59, which is about 175 kilometers off the coast of Amapá and at a depth of 2,880 meters.
