The president of the CPI of NGOs, senator Plínio Valério (PSDB-AM), criticized the absence of the Minister of the Environment and Climate, Marina Silva, in a statement scheduled this Tuesday morning (21). Given the unjustified absence, the board approved a “mandatory call-up” for next Monday (27).
“With the summons, as a public agent, she can no longer miss the Senate CPI. She has a lot to explain and we want convincing answers,” said the senator.
According to Valério, “the minister put in place a series of obstacles to make it unfeasible, such as the coordination of the large delegation leaving for Dubai for COP 28”. However, he highlighted that the COP only starts on December 2nd, and that is why the minister’s summons was scheduled for the 27th.
“The minister wanted to come one day before the end of the CPI, but in our schedule the final report will be read on December 5th. We went to our negotiation limit, with an invitation. But it was impossible, so we approved the mandatory call-up,” she explained.
The minister’s call is for her to clarify the role and influence of NGOs in the State structure. The minister must also address topics such as alleged damage to sovereignty, lack of transparency in Amazon Fund resources and other issues related to the investigation of the activities of these organizations in the Amazon region.
Despite not having attended the NGO’s CPI, the minister appeared on Tuesday afternoon (21) at a hearing of the Agriculture Committee in the Chamber of Deputies to rebut criticisms of agribusiness. However, according to some parliamentarians, she dodged several questions.
