Marcos do Val tells the PF that Bolsonaro showed no opposition to the coup plan – 02/02/2023 – Politics

Senator Marcos do Val (Podemos-ES) said in a statement to the PF (Federal Police) this Thursday (2) that former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) did not show opposition to the plan of former deputy Daniel Silveira ( PTB-RJ) of trying to reverse the result of the elections.

Do Val, who in the early hours of this Thursday even announced that Bolsonaro had tried to coerce him to “take a coup d’état together with him”, gave the PF a report on how Silveira would have asked him to illegally record the minister of the STF (Supreme Federal Court) Alexandre de Moraes.

The senator said that the former president was silent throughout the conversation and did not deny the plan or show opposition. In this version, Do Val reported that, at the end of the meeting, he said that he needed to think about the proposal, and that Bolsonaro replied that he would wait for him.

Do Val also said that he had the impression that Bolsonaro did not know about the matter, and that Silveira seemed to want to obtain the consent of the two. The senator also stated that he thought the conversation was being recorded.

Also according to the senator’s account, Silveira asked him at the time if he would fulfill a very important mission: record Moraes and induce him to say something that went beyond the four lines of the Constitution —a catchphrase widely used by Bolsonaro.

The senator repeated to the Federal Police a large part of the report made to the media this Thursday – throughout the day, he changed his version and began to try to exempt the former president from participating in the alleged plan.

The senator stated that he was approached by Silveira on December 7 and that the then deputy put him in touch with Bolsonaro. They would have arranged a meeting, according to Silveira, on December 9th.

To the PF Do Val stated that he contacted Moraes on the 8th to let him know that he had been sought out by Silveira and to ask if he should go to the meeting. The senator stated that he thought it best to do this because the former deputy, arrested on Thursday, is being investigated.

According to the testimony to the Federal Police, when questioning the Supreme Minister if he should meet with Bolsonaro, Do Val says he heard the answer that information is always important.

The senator said he sent a message to the STF minister after the episode to report that the meeting had been odd. The two met in person again, according to him, and there was no request for the facts to be formalized.
