Senator Marcos do Val (Podemos-ES) announced this Thursday (2) that he intends to “definitely leave politics”. In a publication on his official Instagram account, he stated that in the coming days he should ask for removal from the Senate and return to the United States. The parliamentarian was elected in 2018 and has four more years in office.

He justified the decision citing personal and health reasons, such as a “infarction principle”. In addition, Marcos do Val stated that “it is no use being transparent, honest and fighting for a better Brazil, without the attacks and offenses that follow in the same way”. “In the next few days, I will file a Senate removal request and return to my career in the US,” he said.

After the defeat of Rogério Marinho (PL-RN) in the race for the presidency of the Senate, Marcos do Val was accused, along with other senators, on social networks of “traitor”. The senator declared his support for Marinho. Videos of the parliamentarian greeting the President of the House, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), and Davi Alcolumbre (União Brasil-AP), went viral. Marcos do Val stressed that the gesture demonstrates civility and education. “The offenses I have experienced have been very heavy on my family,” he said.
