Marcos do Val delivered Bolsonaro – 02/04/2023 – Celso Rocha de Barros

Senator Marcos do Val (Podemos-ES) delivered to Veja magazine conversations with former deputy Daniel Silveira, from December of last year. During the conversations, Silveira proposed that he participate in a coup d’état, coordinated by Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and four “very important and relevant people”, “five stars”.

Marcos do Val’s task would be to try to record a conversation with the minister of the STF (Federal Supreme Court) Alexandre de Moraes. Silveira claims that “tapping used by special operations” and “receiving vehicle” would already be available for the execution of the plan.

It’s good to remember the context in which the conversation would have taken place. Jair Bolsonaro has still not recognized his defeat in the 2022 presidential election. The Federal Police found a draft of what would have been the declaration of a coup in the house of Bolsonaro’s former Minister of Justice Anderson Torres. On Christmas Eve, an adviser who was once assigned to Damares Alves’ ministry tried to blow up a truck at Brasília airport.

A few days later, Anderson Torres left the ministry and became Secretary of Security for the Federal District, appointed by the Bolsonarist governor. Shortly after taking office, he left the country and traveled to the same American city where Jair Bolsonaro was. On January 8, his commanders in the Brasília police let the coup leaders destroy the Praça dos Três Poderes.

A few days later, Jair Bolsonaro broke his silence by lying on Twitter that Lula (PT) had stolen the election. Until today, the Armed Forces have not commented on January 8th.

Since the scandal broke, Marcos do Val has offered different versions of the case.

In an MBL live last week, the senator announced that Veja magazine would tell how Bolsonaro tried to coerce him to participate in a coup d’état. The magazine came out a day later and said just that.

But Do Val, frightened by the repercussions, changed his story: in the new version, Bolsonaro would have remained quiet while Silveira proposed the conspiracy. When presenting this version, the senator stated that, in the MBL live, he would have exceeded himself, under the emotional impact of the defeat of the Bolsonarist candidate for the presidency of the Senate.

If Do Val mentioned the interview with Veja on the live, it is because it happened before the live. And on Veja it is very clear that it was Bolsonaro who invited Val to participate in the coup. Was Do Val emotional in the interview and live? For a guy who lives in SWAT clothes, the senator seems pretty sensitive.

What’s more, published conversations suggest that it was Jair Bolsonaro who proposed the plan to Do Val.

In the version published in Veja, Bolsonaro, at the time of offering to participate in the coup, would have exhorted Do Val to “save Brazil”. In one of the conversations with Silveira, there is an explicit mention of this episode: “If you accept the mission, paraphrasing 01, we will save Brazil”. Silveira’s paraphrase only makes sense if the phrase from “01” was pronounced in the presence of Do Val, who was the only way to understand the reference.

The investigations have barely begun, there is much to discover, and Daniel Silveira is already emerging as the favorite for the post of “sucker who will take the blame instead of the big fish”. But it’s hard to look at the pieces already fitted to the puzzle and not realize that the final image will be of Jair Bolsonaro attempting a coup.
