Music is now available on all digital platforms

Manaus (AM) – To liven up the pre-carnival season, Marcia Novo and George Japa launch, this Friday (19), the new baré hit “Surubim” which mixes the sound of the beach band with electronic beats and pays a special bow to Teixeira de Manaus. The song is now available on all digital platforms.

Known for playing shows in the interior and being one of the new generation of Beiradão musicians, Hadail Mesquita writes the composition that portrays a romance through Amazonian elements and pop culture.

“We give morality to the Amazonian man, the riverside dweller, the guy from the interior. The surubim is a delicacy here in our Amazon, it is a beautiful fish, smooth and painted, but very delicious, so I compare it to the man who was broke at the time of the pandemic. In other words, the man was smooth, but the woman wanted it that way. This composition was created with the aim of always exalting our simple things that we have here, in our regional Amazonian culture”,

explains Hadail.

He was introduced to Marcia by Paulo Moura, composer, journalist, researcher and director of the documentary “O Áureo do Beiradão nas radios manauaras in the 80s” and the event “Noite do Beiradão”, who is currently doing work, together with Marcia , Jonaci from Sax Lambeirada, Orquestra do Beiradão (OBA), China and the Astronauts, Chicão do Sax and several artists from Beiradão, reviving the musical genre.

“Paulo asked me to sing on ‘Noite do Beiradão’ together with Hadail Mesquita, I had already seen some of his videos on the internet and I was already hooked, so when he introduced me to the song “Surubim” it was love at first audition, Afterwards we sang together and I asked to record her in my new work, as I think she is the face of the North”,

says Marcia Novo.

The new baré hit had to have a feat and, for Marcia, George Japa was the ideal artist due to his energy and connection with the popular audience in the interior.

“When the song was ready, I missed someone else collaborating on the track and I immediately thought of George Japa, the king of crowds and charisma, and besides, I’m a big fan. Our exchange within the studio was sensational. It was the first time we recorded together, your experience, talent and generosity contributed to making the final version unique, it’s worth listening to”,

said the singer.

The Sound of Beiradão

Beiradão is Brazilian popular music produced in the interior that mixes forró, merengue, lambada, carimbó orchestrated mainly by the saxophone, with striking peculiarities and made for dancing. With more than 80 years of existence, the genre is currently promoted by cultural workers who bring this musical style to the public in different ways through books, films, records and scientific research.

The precursor of the phenomenon, Teixeira de Manaus was successful in the 80s and won a Gold Record for more than 100 thousand copies sold.

“In the track ‘Surubim’ there is an excerpt from the song ‘Deixa Meu Sax Entrar’, a way of reciprocating the ‘Teixeira’ effect in my work as an artist and singer from Beiradão. Teixeira changed the history of Amazonian music and I couldn’t help but pay homage to him so that this new generation can also listen to his sound”,

said Marcia.

The singer was undergoing cancer treatment and passed away last Thursday (18). The family of the “King of Beiradão” created a crowdfunding fund to help pay for medical and funeral expenses. Donations can be made via PIX: [email protected].

“Teixeira was one of the biggest stars of Amazonian music, his powerful sax coming from the banks and riversides, he took riverside popular music to the world and filled our hearts with pride. His history and music are immortalized, we will continue here praising his legacy”,

says the singer.

New phase

The hit marks a new phase for singer Marcia Novo, who is celebrating 20 years of career. The song is part of a sequence of releases for this milestone.

“I want to show the new cycle that I am starting, a more empowered, mature Marcia but always maintaining my pop, roots and irreverent way”,

ends.
