Marcelo reveals that negotiation to return to Fluminense was quick: ‘Heart spoke louder’

Marcelo’s return to Fluminense came after 16 years. But the negotiation, which had the face of a soap opera, ended up happening quickly. The explanation came from the left-back himself, who gave a press conference after being officially introduced this Friday at Maracanã. According to him, “the heart spoke louder”.

— It was quick when we decided to return to Fluminense. Negotiation was quick. We already knew what we wanted. Then it was just thinking how to do it. When I entered the field with my family, a movie played in my head. I said I wanted to play longer in Europe, but when I left Real Madrid I started to understand more about how my return to Fluminense would be. The heart spoke louder – said Marcelo.

Marcelo was approached by clubs in Europe, Saudi Arabia and the United States. But he chose Fluminense and explained his decision. He confirmed that the proposals were financially superior, but opted for the tricolor.

— There is no money to pay for the love I have for Fluminense. Today, it was clear to see that no money pays for this [recepção da torcida]. Playing for another club or winning a title for another club doesn’t pay for what I’ve experienced here today. I want to give back on the field. There were other proposals, but Fluminense is my home and I’m returning to my home.

Marcelo also explained about his position. After talking to coach Fernando Diniz, he didn’t hit the hammer on playing left-back or defender.

— I am privileged. I’m coming home and I’m very welcome here. I play anywhere, left-back, midfielder, goalkeeper… I’m here to help Fluminense. I’ve already had a few conversations with Fernando Diniz and whatever the professor wants me to help with is the most important thing. I’m not worried about the position.

Example for players: “My goal has always been to reach the highest place in my career. I do everything to leave my legacy. I never gave up on my dreams. When I see these young people rising to profi, players being sold at 18 years old, I am very happy . I can be an example for them in the future”

Real Madrid: “Today is not the day to talk about Real Madrid. Today is the day to talk about Fluminense”

Fred’s influence: “”I saw Fred’s farewell, I saw the Flu project for him. I talked to him too, to Marcão. Not every club does that for the player, repatriate like that. Bring it back home. I didn’t think about that affection from the fans. Today was a very big show of affection.”
