Manaus receives the 3rd stage of the Copa Escola Guga

Manaus (AM) – In a year of historic achievement for Brazilian tennis, with Bia Haddad becoming the first woman in the country to reach the semifinals of Roland Garros in the Open Era (from 1968) and putting Brazil back in the qualifying match of a Grand Slam after 22 years and in the top 10 of the world singles ranking after 21 years, Manaus will be the stage of a special tournament related to the modality: the 3rd stage of the Guga School Cup, called “Amazon Cup”.

With free admission for those who want to follow Tennis and Beach Tennis matches, the event takes place between the 14th and 20th of August at the local franchise of Escola Guga, a project created by former Brazilian tennis player Gustavo Kuerten (Guga), the last to appear in the top 10 of the world ranking. He rose to No. 1 on the list and was last among the world’s top ten in June 2002, when he took seventh place. It was with Guga that Brazil also made it far at Roland Garros: the former tennis player was crowned champion in 1997, 2000 and 2001.

Guga’s trophy and equipment used during his first victory in the tournament – ​​which make up the four most important annual events in tennis – will be on display during the 3rd stage of the Guga School Cup. The capital of Amazonas is one of the four cities chosen to host the tournament, which started in April, in the city of Passo Fundo (RS).

Registration for the “Cup in the Amazon” starts next Friday (16th) and ends on July 7th, and can be done through the “LetzPlay” platform, dedicated exclusively to the sport. The champions and runners-up of the tournament will receive trophies and, during the event, a racket, racket bag and other gifts will be raffled for subscribers. Owner of Escola Guga Manaus – located in the Santo Agostinho neighborhood –, businesswoman Rubia Chies details that participants from 07 to 99 years old, both inside and outside the unit, can register for the stage, which has limited places.

Inaugurated on January 25, 2020, the Guga School franchise arrived in Manaus after investment by the gauchos couple Alexandre and Rubia Chies, fascinated by tennis and arrived in the capital in 2006, along with their children Isabella and Alexandre Filho.
