Manaus receives new vaccination against Influenza

Manaus (AM) – Manaus City Hall begins, on Monday (13), a new vaccination against Influenza (flu) for people from 18 priority groups recommended by the Ministry of Health (MS). The action takes place in conjunction with child multivaccination, focused on updating the vaccination schedule for children and adolescents aged 0 to 14 years. The Municipal Health Department (Semsa) will provide 167 vaccination rooms, distributed in all areas of the capital, for actions to reinforce the population’s immunization.

The municipal secretary of Health, Shádia Fraxe, informs that vaccination against Influenza will continue until December 15th, this being the first time that the action takes place in Manaus in the second half of the year. She also explains that the change in the calendar should become permanent in the capital and in all other municipalities in the North of the country, due to the seasonality of the region.

“Flu and respiratory syndromes increase during periods of greater humidity, which for us corresponds to the months of November to April. With this change, the vaccine now arrives at an opportune time to ensure the protection of people, especially the most vulnerable”,

points out the manager.

According to Shádia, the priority groups to receive the vaccine include children aged 6 months to 5 years, 11 months and 29 days; pregnant women; postpartum women (up to 45 days after giving birth); indigenous people, from 6 months of age; elderly people aged 60 and over; health workers; and primary and higher education teachers.

“Semsa’s goal is to vaccinate 90% of these groups, which make up an estimated population of 567,752 people, by the end of the action,”

states.

Other priority groups include people with permanent disabilities; homeless people; security and rescue forces; Armed forces; truck drivers; public transport workers; port workers; people deprived of liberty; adolescents and young people aged 12 to 21 in compliance with socio-educational measures; prison system employees; and people with chronic non-communicable diseases and other clinical conditions.

Semsa’s Immunization Manager, Isabel Hernandes, informs that the vaccine used in the action is trivalent Influenza, and reinforces that the application of the vaccine prevents complications and deaths resulting from Influenza, as well as helping to reduce the circulation of the virus among the population.

“Trivalent Influenza can be administered together with other vaccines on the immunization schedule, without the need for a break. People with an acute or moderate febrile illness, or diagnosed with Covid-19, must wait for improvement to receive the vaccine”,

guides.

Multivaccination

In conjunction with vaccination against Influenza, from November 13th to December 15th, Semsa will promote child multi-vaccination, with the aim of mobilizing parents and guardians to update the vaccination card of young people aged 0 to 14 years old, reinforcing protecting this public and increasing coverage against vaccine-preventable diseases.

“We want to raise awareness among families so that they seek to immunize those children who are not vaccinated or who are late with vaccines from the basic calendar. Strengthening the coverage of these vaccines also prevents currently controlled diseases, such as measles, from becoming a concern again,”

points out secretary Shádia Fraxe.

During mobilization, Semsa’s 167 vaccination rooms will offer all vaccines indicated in the basic calendar for the age group from 0 to 14 years old, in addition to vaccines against Covid-19, indicated for all ages from 6 months, and against Influenza, recommended for children aged 6 months to 5 years, 11 months and 29 days.

The vaccines to be offered during the campaign are: BCG, Hepatitis B, VIP Polio, OPV Polio, Rotavirus, Pentavalent (DTP + HIB + HB), 10-valent Pneumococcal, Meningococcal C, Yellow Fever, MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella), DTP (Diphtheria, Tetanus and Whooping Cough), DT (Diphtheria and Tetanus), Human Papillomavirus, Chickenpox, Hepatitis A, Meningococcal ACWY, and dTPa (pregnant teenagers).

Strategies

Semsa Manaus has been working, since Monday (6), to train health teams that will work on vaccination against Influenza and the multi-vaccination strategy. In addition to applications in vaccination rooms, professionals will conduct active searches in communities and extramural vaccination actions in places and institutions with priority groups, such as condominiums and schools.

Isabel Hernandes points out that the objective of the vaccination campaign against Influenza is to reach and immunize the largest number of people in priority groups. The mobilization will reach the four Health Districts in the urban area, North, South, East and West, in addition to the Rural District.

“We have strategies to take vaccines and immunize the population even in locations affected by the historic drought, working with the teams that provide services in these areas”,

reports.

The schedule for vaccination against Influenza and the multi-vaccination strategy also includes a “D-Day”, with the expansion of the number of immunization points and the service offering hours, on November 25th.

Service

To receive the Influenza vaccine, users must go to one of the immunization points managed by Semsa and present their official identification document, CPF or National Health Card (CNS), and a document that certifies their inclusion in the priority groups.
