Manaus (AM) – Manaus participated in the largest tourism fair in Latin America, Abav Expo 2023, which received more than 40 thousand participants in Rio de Janeiro (RJ). With its own stand, following the dynamics of 2022, at national tourism fairs, the city broke paradigms and consolidated itself as the capital among the most sought after tourist destinations in the North and Northeast region.

The 50 square meter stand, furnished with tables and chairs, in addition to business counters, accommodated, on the 27th, 28th and 29th of September, 16 businesspeople from the city and adjacent municipalities, including the Sebrae caravan with eight travel agents , offering the opportunity to do new business, which was confirmed by many of them who already left the fair with closed packages.

For the director-president of the Municipal Foundation for Culture, Tourism and Events (Manauscult), Osvaldo Cardoso, Manaus’ participation in national and international fairs will position the capital of Amazonas in the prominent place it deserves and still meets the goal of the Government Plan , being the expansion of dissemination and access to tourist information in the region, as well as transforming Manaus into a sustainable business city.

“Including Manaus as one of the main tourist destinations in Brazil was one of the goals achieved by the David Almeida administration, as our capital deserves and is increasingly preparing to receive tourists from all over the world, proof of this are the investments in the sector, which total R $238 million in new tourist equipment so that Manaus can compete in the international tourism ranking, with our natural beauty, our culture, gastronomy, sustainability, qualified workforce, in addition to having an environment conducive to business”,

Cardoso pointed out.

The vice-president of Manauscult, Oreni Braga, highlighted that Manaus joins other big names as a tourist destination.

“Manaus is a destination that, together with Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and Foz do Iguaçu, without forgetting Fortaleza, are complementary, and the market demands these destinations. Having your own stand at a fair the size of Abav Expo is demonstrating the David Almeida management’s commitment to tourism in the capital of the Amazon and, this action, complements the effort that the mayor has been making to equip Manaus with new tourist and cultural attractions” ,

he said.

According to data from the monthly survey by the Tourism Council of the Federation of Commerce of Goods, Services and Tourism of the State of São Paulo (FecomercioSP), based on data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), Brazilian tourism revenue last year it was R$208 billion, 28% higher than that recorded in 2021.

Participation

The presence of Manaus at Abav Expo and Manauscult’s support for businesspeople in the sector, both in the capital and in the interior municipalities, made a difference, as commented by the executive director of Amazônia Jungle Hotel, Leonardo Said.

“All the support from Manauscult and the team that was at the fair was extremely important and very beneficial in the business sector. We managed to have positive conversations there at the stand and I can only thank you for all your efforts”,

Said commented.

In addition to the businesspeople, one of the highlights at the stand was the indigenous woman Thaís Kokama who put on a show with her indigenous graphics that caught the attention of visitors.

Manaus was a much sought after destination by travel agents, tour operators and specialized journalists from all over Brazil. Councilors Alonso Oliveira and Márcio Tavares also participated in the event, who came to take a closer look at the work that Manauscult carries out in the tourism sector.
