Manaus (AM) – Determined to see the capital of Amazonas emerging in sport, the City Hall of Manaus launched, this Thursday afternoon (3), the capital’s candidacy for the 2024 title. The award is endorsed by the European Parliament.
The event took place at Casarão da Inovação Cassina and was attended by the representative of Aces Europe, professor João Macário, who highlighted the importance of Manaus’ candidacy on the national scene.
“The indication of Manaus was my finger, I take my hat off to the city. The application process is complex, there are four cities nominated, the fourth was Manaus. In three weeks, the mayor’s team managed to pass all stages of the process. Today it is candidacy number 1”,
said the rep.
According to the professor, the title is a pilot project being developed in Brazil, although it exists in other countries around the world.
“It is a pilot project that is starting in the country. In Brazil, until 2027, the cities will be indicated. These cities need to meet a set of requirements, where not the City Hall, but the whole community has to embrace and try to get an 8. Manaus has the possibility of a 10”,
concluded Macário, recognizing that the capital is on the right track to win the title of “South American Sports City” in 2024.
The Mayor of Manaus, David Almeida, explained that investment in sport will result in good results for the health of the Manaus population, which was affected during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The city of Manaus was the epicenter of Covid-19, we lost many people. We need to work on sports to improve the health of the population. In Europe, if you save 1 euro for sport, you save 5 euros on health. If we invest in sport, we will have an improvement in the health of the capital, with quality of life. We cannot think small in one of the most important cities in the world”,
Almeida pointed out.

Also during the event, the candidates for the mascot of the Manaus candidacy were presented. The options are:
