Crime turns six years old on March 14th

The owner of a scrapyard accused of dismantling and disposing of the vehicle used in the murder of councilor Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes, in March 2018, was arrested this Wednesday (28), in Rio de Janeiro. man was detained in joint action by the Federal Police and the Specialized Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (GAECO), of the Public Ministry of the State of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ).

He was close to the house where he lives in the neighborhood of Santa Cruz da Serra, Duque de Caxias, in Baixada Fluminense. The prisoner was taken to the PF Regional Superintendency in Rio and, after completing the initial procedures, he will be taken to a unit in the prison system.

The man had already been charged by the Public Ministry in August 2023. He is accused of preventing and hindering investigations against a criminal organization. According to the complaint, on March 16, 2018, Ronnie Lessa and Elcio Vieira de Queiroz, accused of being the shooter and driver of the double homicide, handed over the car to the accused, who continued the dismantling process.

The murder of councilor Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes turns six years old on March 14, and, with the entry of the Federal Police into the investigations in 2023, there have been some advances, such as the plea bargain of former PM Élcio Queiroz, who drove the car used in the crime.
