The announcement of singer Madonna’s free concert on Copacabana beach, in Rio de Janeiro, on May 4, caused searches for accommodation to rise by more than 1,000% on Airbnb.

The report, to which the Sheet had access, compares the searches made between March 25th — when the show was officially announced — and March 27th, 2024 with the same period in 2023, for stays during the weekend of the presentation in Rio de Janeiro.

According to data from the platform, which is among the largest in the segment, travelers identified as men represent more than 70% of guests with confirmed check-ins between May 3 and 5 in the capital of Rio de Janeiro. The majority are between 30 and 39 years old, followed by those between 25 and 29 years old.

Most of these travelers will leave from São Paulo. The list of main places of origin also includes Belo Horizonte, Fortaleza, Curitiba and Brasília, in that order. There are also those who come from abroad: Buenos Aires (Argentina), Santiago (Chile), Clermont-Ferrand (France) —where the Michelin Guide was founded—, Bogotá (Colombia) and Paris (France), in that order, are the cities of origin of the majority of international travelers booking in Rio de Janeiro between May 3rd and 5th.

The presentation will be broadcast by Globo on its open channel, on Globoplay and Multishow, and around 750 customers of Banco Itaú, sponsor of the presentation, will have access to a VIP area. The show will be produced by businessman Luiz Oscar Niemeyer, who also produced the Rolling Stones show in 2016 for around 1.5 million people.
