The government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) decided to release R$ 3 billion in parliamentary amendments for municipalities across the country. The movement takes place on the eve of the so-called March of Mayors, an event that annually takes them to Brasília with their demands.
The amount is related to amendments that were presented in the National Congress until 2022. At first, more than 3,000 municipalities from all states will be contemplated, which should start receiving resources as early as next week.
The March of Mayors arrives in the federal capital next Monday (27). The government wants to oppose the management of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) with the release of the billionaire amount, stating that it will allow the resumption of works and public policies supposedly abandoned under Lula’s predecessor.
The release is also a nod from the PT to mayors who are on the opposite side of the political spectrum, since it would reinforce the discourse that the federal government seeks to work together with everyone.
