Lula will do lives, and Planalto denies mirroring Bolsonaro – 04/10/2023 – Politics

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) should start performing lives on the internet to publicize government actions and transmit messages to the population, following the model adopted by his predecessor Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
The hypothesis of Lula carrying out transmissions on the internet was confirmed this Monday (10) by the minister of Secom (Secretary of Communication of the Presidency), Paulo Pimenta. The minister stated that the details will be defined after the return of the representative from the official trip to China.
The government, however, seeks to take off the initiative completely from the format that became popular with Bolsonaro. Pimenta even said that he used the term “live” in a generic way.
“We are going to talk when he returns from China, to discuss the format, the frequency, the day, the time and the way it will be”, said Pimenta, in an interview with journalists.
“He [Lula] likes the idea that, at certain times, he addresses the population directly”, he added.
Pimenta also added that Lula has already adopted ways of dialoguing directly with the population in his first two terms. He added that this is not a breach of dialogue with the press.
In his first passage through the Presidency, Lula had a weekly radio program produced by the state-owned EBC, called Café com o Presidente. The program had an interview format and was also aired on National radio.
“In these 90 days, we had many press conferences, many interviews, the president spoke at many acts and events, so there was no lack of contact with the press,” the minister told journalists.
Then, again, he sought to differentiate the current government’s proposal from Bolsonaro’s lives.
“Often these models of traditional lives, as many leaders do, is the only way, they just talk like that. They don’t usually talk to the press. This is not the case with Lula. Lula will continue talking to the press, he will continue to do the press conferences” said Pimenta.
“And, eventually, to address some topic that he wants to talk about, something more specific, we’ll talk and he can do it. It’s not to replace the role of [entrevista] collective or the role of the press. The president may want to talk about a certain subject, a certain person may want to deepen the topic, a minister can talk about it”, he added.
Former President Bolsonaro used to broadcast his live broadcast on the internet weekly, on Thursday nights, which was recorded in the library of the Palácio do Alvorada.
Usually in the presence of one of his ministers, without questions from journalists, the former representative felt free to attack the press and opponents and to defend denialist and anti-democratic theses, such as attacking electronic voting machines and defending the use of hydroxychloroquine to treat Covid-19.
