Lula tries to reach an agreement for Daniela Carneiro to resign from Tourism

Allies of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) try to sew an agreement with Daniela Carneiro, so that she resigns from the Ministry of Tourism. The strategy aims to reduce the wear and tear for Lula in the face of the need to dismiss a female minister to house deputy Celso Sabino (União Brasil-PA).

The replacement in the folder is a demand from the top of União Brasil. Lula began to arrange the exchange in the Ministry of Tourism as a way to increase support within the party’s bench in the Chamber of Deputies.

On a trip to Europe, Lula selected his articulators for this offensive with Daniela Carneiro’s political group. The negotiations are accompanied by the minister’s husband, the mayor of Belford Roxo, Waguinho Carneiro (Republicans). The expectation is that the minister’s departure will be announced on Lula’s return to Brazil.

Despite this, Waguinho Carneiro sees the pressure for his wife’s resignation as “machismo” on the part of the leaders of União Brasil. “The evaluation [que eu faço] is that the party has no sensitivity towards women. A woman who was the most voted in the state of Rio de Janeiro, a state that proportionally elected the largest bench in Brazil. Then you see União Brasil attack a woman. Pressure from União Brasil to change the minister gained strength after the mayor of Belford Roxo left the party. Daniela is also fighting in the Electoral Court to leave União Brasil without losing her mandate as a federal deputy.

“The judicialization of the action is a response to the cowardice that leaders of União Brasil, mainly President Luciano Bivar and Vice President Antônio de Rueda, made [sic] with us in Rio de Janeiro,” he added.

Despite the wear and tear caused by the ministerial change, Waguinho Carneiro has already indicated that his political group will continue to support the Lula government. “If President Lula says: ‘Daniela, now your mission, which I’m going to give you, is in the Chamber’. Daniela will take the president’s mission and will work in the Chamber. Janeiro and performs very well in the Chamber”, he said.

Lula’s assistants argue that the PT made a point of explaining the minister’s political situation during a meeting they had at the Planalto Palace. The strategy would have been an attempt to counter criticism that Daniela’s future was being decided by two men, Lula and her husband, Waguinho Carneiro, while she would be out of the negotiations.

To avoid criticism of the government for alleged machismo in the pressure for a ministerial change, the minister began to make several nods to Lula. “Tourism that respects women. Speaking of respect, we are in a government that literally respects women. In fact, I am the 11th woman minister in President Lula’s government. I feel very honored, very flattered by the power through this policy so important, which is tourism, to empower women”, said the minister this Wednesday (21).

Last week, at a hearing in the Chamber of Deputies, Daniela Carneiro had already cited “machismo” as a form of pressure against her work. “For some, there is the issue of structural machismo, I am from Baixada Fluminense, I have a history, a very big victory, my voters trust me. I wholeheartedly supported President Lula, we had a very beautiful campaign and I really admire and hope that the government works out”, she said.

Lula wants to make Sabino’s inauguration in Tourism an event of rapprochement with União Brasil

Just last week, Lula met with Celso Sabino, in Belém (PA), to settle the exchange at the Ministry of Tourism. At the meeting, the PT member asked the deputy to reassure the União Brasil bench and signaled that Daniela Carneiro’s departure would be defined after her return from Europe. The Chief Executive is expected to arrive in Brazil this Saturday (24).

The expectation is that Lula will make Sabino’s inauguration ceremony at the Ministry of Tourism a major event to bring him closer to the top of União Brasil. In addition to the presence of deputies from the bench, the presence of the president of the acronym, Luciano Bivar, the leader in the Chamber, deputy Elmar Nascimento (BA), and Senator Davi Alcolumbre (AP), one of the great articulators of the acronym, is expected.

“When Lula returns from Europe, these definitions will certainly be announced to the country,” said the chief minister of the Secretariat for Social Communication (Secom), Paulo Pimenta, in an interview with GloboNews. According to him, “some conversations still need to take place”.

Despite having already agreed on the exchange, Celso Sabino’s tenure should only take place in the first week of July. This is because Daniela will participate in the Lisbon Legal Forum to discuss “tourism, infrastructure, governance and perspectives” between the 26th and 29th of June.
