Lula summons Daniela Carneiro under pressure to dismiss her – 06/13/2023 – Politics

President Lula (PT) will meet this Tuesday (13) with the Minister of Tourism, Daniela Carneiro. The Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha, will also be at the meeting.

União Brasil pressures the Planalto Palace to replace Daniela with deputy Celso Sabino (União Brasil-PA) after Lula negotiates changes in political articulation in exchange for expanding the political base in the Chamber. Daniela asked the TSE to disaffiliate from União Brasil.

Also participating in the conversation is Daniela’s husband, the mayor of Belford Roxo (RJ), Waguinho.

Planalto interlocutors say that the expectation is that the minister will be fired. With the exchange for Sabino, party members promise to attract more votes from the bench, which has 59 deputies, to the government.

Folha’s report showed that, although União Brasil pressures Lula for changes in the first and second echelons, party members and leaders do not guarantee that the party will integrate the government base if the PT meets the demands.

On another front, a wing of União Brasil threatens to take most of the 59 deputies to the opposition if changes are not made.

The União Brasil bench in the Chamber, which is aligned with the President of the House, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), is negotiating with the Palácio do Planalto, the Ministry of Tourism and Embratur (tourism promotion agency). There are also requests from Lira’s group to get the command and directorates of the Post Office.
