Lula sends a message to the MST and sees agrarian reform without fuss – 06/13/2023 – Politics

President Lula said this Tuesday (13) that the Landless Rural Workers Movement will no longer need to invade properties during his government and that it will not be necessary to “have a war”, because, according to him, his government will carry out agrarian reform .

The representative’s speech comes after a series of invasions promoted by the MST, which came to occupy an area that belongs to Embrapa.

The invasions became a source of wear and tear for the government in those first months and gave more strength to the CPI installation created in the Chamber to investigate the movement.

“We are going to strengthen small and medium-sized properties, we are going to strengthen agribusiness, we are going to continue carrying out agrarian reform, because wherever people need to be settled, we are going to settle. And it is an important thing,” said the president, during a live broadcast on social networks.

“I said to the [ministro do Desenvolvimento Agrário] Paulo Teixeira these days: there is no need to invade land anymore. If Incra is the one who surveys unproductive land, Incra communicates to the government which are the unproductive lands in each state and from there we will discuss the occupation of that land.”

“It’s simple. There’s no need for noise, there’s no need for war. What you need is competence and occupation capacity,” added the president.

The president also stated that there are no problems between his government and agribusiness, from an economic point of view.

“I never had a problem with agribusiness. I governed this country for eight years. They know everything we did for them. In our time, one of these harvesting machines was financed with 2% interest a year, today they are paying 14% at 18% interest per year. From an economic point of view, they have no problem with us. The problem may be ideological and, if it is, patience,” said the president.

“We are going to announce the Crop Plan now for both family farming and agribusiness, and they will realize that, on the part of the government, there is no objection to them. What we want is for everyone to produce, grow and for Brazil to grow together” , completed.

This Tuesday morning (13), Lula carried out his first live broadcast on social networks, a strategy by Secom (Secretary of Communication of the Presidency of the Republic) for the president to dialogue directly with the population.

The live was performed directly from Palácio do Alvorada. The chat was with the presenter of EBC (Empresa Brasil de Comunicação) Marcos Uchôa.

The lives format became popular during the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL). The former president used his traditional Thursday lives to try to convey his message, without any kind of sieve.

In these broadcasts, Bolsonaro questioned the effectiveness of vaccines, the safety of electronic voting machines, in addition to attacking his opponents, from parliamentarians to ministers of the Federal Supreme Court.

Bolsonaro was also heavily criticized for using the structure of the Palácio do Alvorada and public officials to carry out the transmission.

When he announced that the president would do lives, the minister of Secom, Paulo Pimenta, had said that the president would not mirror Bolsonaro. However, when talking about the plans to the progressive website Brasil 247, Pimenta had said that the “commercial media” was not an “ally” and that therefore the president would start carrying out these transmissions.
