President Lula (PT) said this Friday (2) that, as his support base in Congress is insufficient for the approval of a project, the government needs to talk to opponents to win votes.

The speech comes after a series of defeats in the Chamber and a struggle to approve the MP (provisional measure) that organizes, with setbacks for the government, the structure of the ministries.

To an audience of students at the Federal University of ABC, Lula stated that it is necessary to know the correlation of forces in Congress.

“The entire left has a maximum of 126 votes, that is if no one misses out. But to vote for a simple thing, we need 257. You need to know how hard it is to govern. It’s not just about winning an election.”

“You need to spend the whole time talking to approve something. You have to talk to those who don’t like us, with those who didn’t vote for us,” he said this Friday (2nd), in São Bernardo do Campo, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo. Paul.

He was at the Federal University of ABC, created in the PT’s first term, to inaugurate a laboratory building. The 22 scientific research and technological innovation laboratories cost BRL 28.6 million — BRL 13.6 million was financed by the federal government, BRL 3.1 million by Finep (National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development) and others R$ 11.9 million for amendments by the São Paulo caucus and PT and PSOL deputies.

In his speech Lula also criticized former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and said he never imagined that fascism would return to the country.

“It’s a war we have to wage, it’s the famous war between good and evil. It’s not a war between left and right. Who likes democracy and who doesn’t,” he said.

Lula was accompanied by ministers Alexandre Padilha (Institutional Relations), Fernando Haddad (Finance), Camilo Santana (Education), Paulo Teixeira (Agrarian Development), Luiz Marinho (Labor and Employment), Márcio França (Ports and Airports), Luciana Santos ( Science and Technology), Renan Filho (Transport) and Cida Gonçalves (Women), in addition to the Executive Secretary of the Civil House, Miriam Belchior, and the mayor of São Bernardo do Campo, Orlando Morando (PSDB).

The students held sheets with different words, such as “No to the fiscal framework”, “Fora Lira” and “Repeal of the New High School”.

Then, the president inaugurates a building at the factory of Eletra Tecnologia, an electric bus company, also in São Bernardo do Campo. The factory will have the capacity to produce 150 electric buses per month and should generate around 500 jobs in two years.

Still this Friday, Lula will have lunch with allies at the ABC Metallurgists Union before returning to Brasília.
