Lula says that few women in government are the fault of the parties

The President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), said this Friday (27) that he “deeply” regrets the reduction of women in positions in his government and attributed the problem to party nominations. The statement was in reference to the departure of Rita Serrano from the presidency of Caixa, and Ana Moser who left the command of the Ministry of Sports in recent months. In both cases, Lula appointed men to command.
“I sometimes deeply regret not being able to nominate more women than men in government. It turns out that when you establish an alliance with a political party, that party doesn’t always have a woman to nominate. But that doesn’t mean I can’t in the government, remove men and install women. I can still change a lot of people, I’ve only been in office for 10 months”, said the PT member during coffee with journalists, at Palácio do Planalto, this Friday (27).
Lula also reinforced that he asked the parties to nominate women, but they claimed that they had no women to nominate and that is why he accepted the nomination. However, he stated that “there will still be more women in government, in other positions.”
