President Lula (PT) said this Wednesday (5th) that the Minister of Health, Nísia Trindade, will remain in office as long as she wants.

The statement comes amid the greed of members of the party of the mayor, Arthur Lira (PP) for the command of the portfolio.

“[Vi uma notinha no jornal que] There was someone claiming the Ministry of Health, I insisted on calling Nísia, because I was going to travel outside Brazil. Nísia, go to sleep and wake up calm, because the Ministry of Health belongs to Lula, it was chosen by me and will stay as long as I want”, she said.

“And I’m sure that few times in our lives we had the chance to have a woman in the Ministry of Health to take care of the people with heart as a mother takes care of her children”, he added.

Lula was applauded by the audience at the closing ceremony of the 17th National Health Conference, which takes place in Brasília. At various times, Nísia was applauded by the health representatives who were on site.

Ministers Márcio Macedo (General Secretariat), Paulo Pimenta (Secom), Camilo Santana (Education), Esther Dweck (Management), Wellington Dias (Social Development) and Marina Silva (Environment) also participated in the meeting. Even Minister Daniela Carneiro (Tourism), who may leave the portfolio later this week, was on site.

Nisia emphasized during the speech that the folder’s agenda is for the inclusion and development of Brazil.

She also stated that the government monitors the situation of the nursing floor, guaranteeing nine installments for the year 2023.

During the conference, the Minister of Health announced an investment of BRL 414 million for the Psychosocial Care Network, to strengthen mental health policies.

At the meeting, the Ministry of Health, in partnership with Fiocruz and CNS, also launched the Collaborative Map of Social Movements in Health.

The Map is a collective and interactive platform that will bring together practical initiatives and knowledge from social movements in the field of health. The objective is for the tool to be a source for building collaborative networks on public policies.
