Lula says Juscelino will leave the government if he fails to prove his innocence

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said this Thursday (2nd) that if the Minister of Communications, Juscelino Filho, fails to prove his innocence, he will not be able to continue in government. The minister would have used a Brazilian Air Force (FAB) flight for a personal appointment in the midst of official events in São Paulo, last month, with daily rates paid by the Union.
In an interview with BandNews FM, Lula emphasized that he guarantees “the presumption of innocence to everyone.” The president said that he called Juscelino, who is abroad, for a meeting on Monday (6). “I tried this week to talk to Juscelino, Minister Juscelino is traveling, he is abroad on behalf of the ministry, discussing a meeting on telecommunications”, he stated.
“I already asked Minister Rui Costa [da Casa Civil] summon him on Monday so we can have a conversation, because he has the right to prove his innocence. But if he can’t prove his innocence, he can’t stay in government. I guarantee everyone the presumption of innocence “, he completed. The minister would also have omitted to declare R$ 2 million in race horses to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).
Minister said he returned money from per diems
This Thursday, the Minister of Communications informed that he returned to the government the per diems he used during an official four-day trip to São Paulo, in January, in which he had commitments in the service of the office in just one day. In the other three, according to the Estadão newspaper, the minister was dedicated to personal business.
According to the report, confirmed by Gazeta do Povo with the defense of the minister, Juscelino would have spent R$ 3 thousand in per diems paid by the Union, and even used a Brazilian Air Force (FAB) flight for the trip. Among the commitments outside the official agenda are participation in a horse auction in the city of Boituva (SP) and advising animal buyers.
