Lula says he wanted to take revenge on Moro in prison; former judge repudiated statement

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said, this Tuesday morning (21), that he thought of revenge against former judge Sérgio Moro during the period in which he was imprisoned in the Federal Police detention center in Curitiba, due to lawsuits relating to Operation Lava Jato.

The current senator for União Brasil do Paraná was responsible for the conviction of the president in 2017 in the process related to the Guarujá triplex, which would have been acquired with bribe money from the construction company OAS. Lula was arrested the following year and spent 580 days in detention.

“Once in a while a prosecutor would go on a Saturday or a week to check if everything was okay, three or four would come in, and ask ‘everything okay?’ .. this Moro. I’m here to take revenge on these people,'” said the president in an interview with the Brasil 247 website.

Shortly afterwards, Moro repudiated Lula’s statement and said he never reported to him using the same terms cited. “We see some imbalance there, because the president has already called farmers fascists, he already said that he did not trust the military, yesterday [segunda, 20] he made an absurd speech about economics books that would have been outdated,” he told CNN Brasil.

For him, Lula’s speech is an attempt at “diversion in relation to the government’s failures”, such as the discussion of the new fiscal anchor scheduled for this week, which should be officially announced only after the trip to China.

“The president hurt the liturgy of office by using this profanity, and we have to question when this is used as a way to divert the focus from the failures of the current government”, said the former judge.

Moro says that the president’s speech is a “farce” that needs to be “taken off the air”. “Lula was convicted by nine magistrates, it wasn’t just me,” he said, citing the convictions of the Federal Regional Court of the 4th Region and the Superior Court of Justice, and recalling that the annulment of the process by the Federal Supreme Court was only a matter of form. , but that “he was not absolved of responsibilities”.

“The president should do a self-criticism of why all this happened. There was corruption in the PT governments, monthly payments and oil are undeniable”, he added.
