President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) said this Tuesday (28) that the government will present a law to equalize wages between men and women who perform the same function. The statement was made during an event at the Planalto Palace for the reactivation of the National Food and Nutrition Security Council (Consea).

“On Women’s Day, we will definitively present the law that will guarantee that women will definitely receive the same salary as men if they perform the same function as men”, he said. In his speech, the president stated that current labor legislation has “so many nuances” that it makes it difficult for men and women to pay equally.

“Every time you go looking for this law, it seems that it exists, but it has so many nuances, so many commas, that everything is done so that women do not have the right. That is, then it is necessary to make a law that says, you know, women must earn the same salary as men if they perform the same function and that’s it. It has no comma. If you don’t pay, you’ll have to have someone supervise. And that someone will be the Labor Court, the Ministry of Labor so that we can make Brazil enter the hall of civilized countries where people are treated with respect”, declared Lula.
