Lula says EU-Mercosur agreement will not be defined in Brussels

Lula recently expressed his intention to conclude the agreement with the EU this semester.

Lula, who has the pro tempore command of the South American bloc until the end of the year, recently expressed his intention to conclude the agreement with the EU this semester.

“We concluded the Mercosur agenda and have already sent it to the Mercosur presidents. It will not be discussed here because it is not Celac that has to make the agreement, it is only Mercosur”
he added.
Last Monday (17), Lula already had bilateral meetings with the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, with the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, with the King of Belgium, Philippe, and with the Prime Minister of the country, Alexander De Croo, in addition to the representative of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola.
This Tuesday’s agenda began with a breakfast with progressive leaders, followed by meetings with the Prime Minister of Sweden, Ulf Kristersson, and the Chancellor of Austria, Karl Nehammer.
Lula will also meet with the Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, and with the Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz.
