Lula reports daily pain, justifies bad mood and predicts femur surgery in October – 07/25/2023 – Power

President Lula (PT) announced this Tuesday (25th) that he intends to undergo surgery in October to reduce the pain caused by arthrosis in the right femur.

The representative stated that he feels pain daily and that this has even affected his good mood to work.

“I want to have the surgery because I don’t want to be in pain. Nobody can work with pain all day. So, I feel that sometimes I’m in a bad mood with my teammates, I arrive in the morning to work, when I put my foot down it hurts”, he said during live on social networks.

He stated that he chose October because it is a possible window to stay away, since he has commitments in August and September and also in November.

“It’s not easy to wake up in pain Saturday, Sunday, not being able to go in the pool because if you move with your foot it hurts. I’m a guy in a good mood, if I get in a bad mood it won’t be nice. He even starts fighting with the dogs”, he said.

Lula said he is like a football player who “does not want to tell the coach that he is feeling pain so as not to go to the bench, he wants to continue playing, so he pretends that he is not hurting”.

Hip arthrosis or osteoarthritis occurs when there is wear and tear on the cartilages that line the head of the femur and the acetabulum (part of the pelvis that connects to the femur). This wear is usually related to age or effort.

Last month, the president stated that he takes daily injections, but that they no longer solve the severe pain in the leg and hip region.

In the operation, the damaged joint is replaced by a metal prosthesis that adheres to the bone and is covered with special ceramic or polyethylene structures.

The surgery had already been recommended by the medical team that takes care of President Lula. It had also been indicated that he would reduce the pace of travel and public events.

Lula, however, has been maintaining his agenda and even intensifying his commitments abroad. Last month, he made a long trip to Japan, as one of the guests at the G7 meeting, a forum that brings together some of the world’s leading economies.

In addition to France, the president should also travel in the coming months to South Africa, for the summit of the Brics (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).
