President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said this Wednesday (8) that former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) was most responsible for the invasions and depredations of the headquarters of the Three Powers on January 8.
Without mentioning his predecessor by name, the PT recalled protests he held in Brasília in the 1970s and said that Bolsonaro supporters took “a step forward and decided to make an attempted coup in this country”.
“Today, I have no doubt that this was engineered by the person most responsible for all the preaching of hate, the industry of lies, the industry of fake news that happened in this country in these last four years, because it was not from now nor did it come from the elections of 2018, when we had not yet had the experience of the fake news industry”, he said.
Lula said that the “coup attempt possibly could” have been organized for the date he took power, on January 1, but that this must not have happened due to the number of people who went to Brasília for his inauguration.
On the day of the acts of vandalism, Bolsonaro used social networks to say that the depredations “run away from the rule” of democracy.
“Peaceful demonstrations, in the form of the law, are part of democracy. However, depredations and invasions of public buildings as occurred today, as well as those practiced by the left in 2013 and 2017, escape the rule”.
From the beginning, however, the ex-president did not try to demobilize his support base that accumulated in front of Army headquarters to make coup demands, such as the intervention of the Armed Forces to prevent Lula’s inauguration.
