President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) met with the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), this Monday morning (5) at the Alvorada Palace, to discuss the government’s articulation with the parliamentarians.

The meeting, which was not recorded in official agendas, lasted around an hour and took place after the government had difficulties in voting in the Chamber, such as the one that reorganized the attributions of the ministries, almost at the end of the term of validity of the provisional measure.

The crisis between the two presidents has been going on for weeks and, last Wednesday (31), Lira avoided any responsibility if the government loses votes if President Lula does not actively participate in articulation with deputies. “You need to walk with your own legs”, said the president of the Chamber after the vote on the provisional measure that restructured the ministries and dehydrated the attributions of the Environment and Indigenous Peoples.

Among the difficulties in articulating with deputies was the release of parliamentary amendments, which reached billions throughout the month of May. There is also a crisis with the parties that form the president’s allied base, which has not fully voted with the government.

The meeting between Lula and Lira ended without statements to the press.
