Lula-Maduro meeting sends a bad signal, says Tarcísio – 05/31/2023 – Panel

The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), told the Panel that the treatment given by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) to the Venezuelan dictator, Nicolás Maduro, “sends a bad signal” from Brazil to the world.
“It is a bad sign for anyone who wants to be a protagonist in Latin America. Note that there was a unanimous negative opinion, including left-wing politicians, about the meeting and what was said by the president”, says the governor.
According to him, Brazil can never turn a “blind eye” to violations in humanitarian matters.
“The issue of Venezuela is not a matter of narratives,” he said, referring to the expression used by Lula himself in the meeting with Maduro.
“It’s very bad for Brazil to do this kind of reception, to give this kind of support [a Maduro]. We cannot be sponsors of a situation like the one facing Venezuela,” he declared.
