“Lula is for dialogue”, says Alckmin about the government MP who reinstates payroll

Vice-president Geraldo Alckmin (PSDB) said he believes there will be dialogue between the Lula government and the National Congress on the provisional measure that gradually reinstates the payroll. The speech took place during a press conference this Sunday (31) in which the vice president presented programs for the industry. Parliamentarians saw the Executive’s measure as an affront, as this December they approved the extension of the exemption until 2027.

“I believe in dialogue. President Lula is the president of dialogue,” he stated. The vice president commented on the two major economic approvals of the government that included the Legislature: the fiscal framework and the tax reform. “Congratulations to President Lula and congratulations to the Legislative Branch”, he reinforced after considering that the process leading up to promulgation, which lasted a year, was quick.

Payroll relief is a measure to reduce tax payments by companies when hiring employees. The Chamber and Senate approved a law that extended the exemption in 17 sectors of industry and services until 2017. But the text was vetoed by President Lula. In December, President Lula’s vetoes were overturned by parliamentarians. Even so, the PT government presented a provisional measure in the opposite direction to what was defined by the Legislative Houses.

The Parliamentary Entrepreneurship Front (FPE) asked the president of the Federal Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco, to return the provisional measure to the government. Through platform Entities, such as the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp), also opposed the measure.
