President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva invited the president of Uruguay, the conservative Luis Lacalle Pou, in a nod to the international right, to accompany him to the summit of the G20 which Brazil will host in 2024. The information was released by EFE Agency.

This statement was made this Wednesday by the Uruguayan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francisco Bustillo, at a press conference a few hours after returning from Brasília, where he met with the Brazilian Foreign Minister, Mauro Vieira. “This is a clear demonstration of the perception that Brazil has of what Uruguay is and of the importance that Uruguay is starting to acquire today on the international scene”, declared Bustillo.

At the meeting held on Tuesday, the parties discussed Mercosur, the block’s modernization and the “challenge” of finalizing the agreement with the European Union (EU). “Brazil has put it under its arm and sees us walking alongside them in favor of this agreement”, emphasized the minister.

In January of this year, President Lula traveled to Uruguay as a way of demonstrating that he does not intend to ignore right-wing leaders in his international relations, as pointed out by the advisory of the Planalto.
