The Lula government was denounced to the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) for classifying the impeachment of former president Dilma Rousseff (PT) in 2016 as a “coup” on the official page of Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC), the official communication body of the federal government . The complaint was made by the councilor of the city of São Paulo Rubinho Nunes (União).

“Remember that Lula created an Attorney’s Office to combat Fake News? Well then. I will use it! I’m suing the Lula government for lying on the official website about Dilma’s impeachment. The impeachment was not a coup. Let’s see if this Attorney’s Office will investigate this case”, wrote the councilor on his social networks.

This week, the chief minister of the Presidency’s Secretariat for Social Communication (Secom), Paulo Pimenta, stated that his biggest challenge ahead of the portfolio will be to recover Secom as a “truth transmitter” and a reliable source of information. The minister also returned to defend the regulation of the media in the country, stating that this is not about censorship.
