Climate Summit will be held for the first time in the Amazon in 2025
Brasilia DF) – President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva arrives this Saturday (17th), in Belém, to start the organization of the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30). The UN climate summit will be held for the first time in the Amazon, in November 2025, precisely in the capital of Pará. The announcement of the choice of the Brazilian headquarters took place at the end of May.
In addition to participating in the ceremony for the official announcement of the holding of COP 30 in Belém, Lula will participate in the signing of the service order for the start of works on a residential building of the Minha Casa, Minha Vida program. The activities will take place from 11:30 am, in Pedro Teixeira square, in the center of the city, in the Companhia Docas do Pará region.
On Friday (16), Lula will go to the interior of Goiás, in the city of Rio Verde, to inaugurate the final section of the North-South Railway.
Amazon countries
The capital of Pará is also preparing to hold, on August 8, the meeting of the eight member countries of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO). Participating are the presidents of Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela. A document approved at the meeting will be presented during the next United Nations Assembly, in September, in New York (USA).
From the 5th to the 7th of August, in the days leading up to the Summit of the Amazon Countries, a series of seminars, debates, exhibitions and cultural manifestations are planned, with the participation of civil society, for the formulation of new strategies for the region. These initiatives will consist of what have been called the Amazonian Dialogues. The work is being coordinated by the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic.
According to the folder, there will be five plenary sessions, which should generate reports to be presented by five representatives of civil society to the leaders of the Amazonian countries during the summit. The event will take place at Hangar Centro de Convenções.
