The first month of government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) was approved by 52% of respondents in the Politics Data survey, carried out between January 29 and 31 and published this Wednesday morning (1). The number has been practically stable for three months and slightly above the vote that elected him at the polls, with 50.9% of the votes.

The survey also revealed that 39% of respondents disapprove of the new management, and 9% did not know how to respond.

According to the survey, Lula’s approval is the same maximum reached by Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in one of the surveys carried out during the Covid-19 pandemic, in mid-August 2020. However, the Lula government’s disapproval is greater than that of the former president in the period – Bolsonaro reached, at the time, 27%.

The survey by Politics Data also shows that the expectation for the performance of the Lula government in comparison with that of the former president also remains stable, with 51% believing in better management and 33% worse. Another 9% expect a government of the same quality.

Residents of the Southeast and Northeast regions are the most optimistic about the performance of the Lula government, with 56% and 55%, respectively. Those from the Midwest are the most pessimistic, with 59%.

According to the analysis by Politics Data, the numbers indicate that the assessment of both Lula and Bolsonaro remains polarized at the same level seen during the election, even with the events seen at the beginning of the year, such as the invasion of the headquarters of the Three Powers.

The survey heard 2,500 people by telephone in 288 municipalities in 26 states and the Federal District. The margin of error is plus or minus two percentage points.
