Lula pointed out that Farmácia Popular was “derided and diminished” in the past government
Brasilia DF) – President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) gave a speech during the relaunch ceremony of Farmácia Popular, a medicine financing program for the population, this Wednesday (7). He defended the project and stated that “no one will be treated as if they were second class”.
“The most needy people, the people who earn the least, the people who have been deprived of knowledge and opportunities throughout this country’s history are going to be treated like first-class people, like first-class people. No one will be treated like they are second class,” she said.
Lula pointed out that Farmácia Popular was “mocked and diminished” in the last government, but that now “it comes back with more strength” and the ability to make agreements so that more pharmacies participate.
Before the president’s speech, several authorities, such as the Minister of Health, Nísia Trindade, spoke. She said that “men’s health” drugs are “on the horizon” through the program, such as prostate drugs.
program expansion
This Wednesday’s ceremony marked the resumption of Farmácia Popular, expansion of the offer of medicines through the program and accreditation of new units in more vulnerable municipalities.
In addition, Bolsa Família beneficiaries will be able to withdraw the 40 medications available free of charge, including treatments for hypertension, diabetes and asthma.
As highlighted by Nísia Trindade, among the main changes in the project is the free availability of drugs indicated for the treatment of osteoporosis and contraceptives, which were previously offered at lower prices.
Another point is that the Ministry of Health will expand the number of pharmacies linked to the program and will facilitate access to the program for the indigenous population in the village — appointing a representative, who will be able to withdraw the medicines for the other indigenous people in the village.
