Lula confirms Sabino and foresees nomination in the coming days – 07/13/2023 – Politics

The office of the Planalto Palace confirmed this Thursday (13) that President Lula (PT) invited Deputy Celso Sabino (União Brasil-PA) to take over the Ministry of Tourism in place of Daniela Carneiro.

The choice is part of the representative’s strategy to improve his relationship with União Brasil and guarantee the party’s votes in the Chamber of Deputies.

That’s because Daniela intends to leave the acronym and migrate to the Republicans due to a disagreement between her husband, the mayor of Belford Roxo, Waguinho, and the party’s leadership.

According to a note released by the government, Lula met this Thursday afternoon with the Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha, and with Sabino, when he made the invitation, “which was accepted by the deputy”. “The nomination will appear in the Official Gazette of the Union in the next few days”, he says.

The soap opera of the exchange in Tourism has been going on for more than a month and even threatened the vote on the tax reform in the Chamber, when Daniela was expected to leave, but the government chose to keep it one more week.

Sabino’s appointment should not reduce pressure from the centrão against the government. The group of parties wants the representative to carry out a broader ministerial reform, instead of just changing minister Daniela Carneiro.

Allies of the mayor, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), reinforce that, for Lula to be able to expand the parliamentary base, it is necessary to make room in the government for parties like PP and Republicans – and that a ministry with a high budget be given.

Without a faithful base, the government faces difficulties in approving the two matters in plenary.
