Lula cites Republicans and PP when talking about negotiating with parties – 07/11/2023 – Politics

In the midst of the government’s articulation to strengthen its base in the Chamber of Deputies, President Lula (PT) said this Tuesday (11) that he does not negotiate with the “centrão”, but with political parties, and said that the relationship is not based on “in giving you get”.

When mentioning the parties with whom he maintains dialogue, the representative not only cited those who already hold a position in the government, but also the Republicans and the PP, which the Executive tries to attract to expand its base in Congress.

“We don’t negotiate with the centrão, the centrão is not a political party. The centrão joins for certain things, but usually negotiates with parties. And who is the party? It’s PT, PSB, PDT, MDB, União, PSD, it’s the Republicans, it’s the PP. So, it’s with those parties that you negotiate”, said Lula live this Tuesday.

The president tried to distance himself from the give-and-take idea of ​​the relationship between the Legislative and Executive, which usually involves exchanging nominations for important positions for favorable votes in Parliament.

The government is currently considering giving more spaces to parties linked to the centrão to have more tranquility in the Chamber. The presidency of Caixa Econômica Federal and the Ministry of Sports are some of the positions under discussion.

“You have to be patient, talk to those you like, with those you don’t like, listen to good things, bad things. It’s not the ‘give what you get’ policy that everyone talks about,” he said.

Lula praised the approval of the Tax Reform and said that it is natural for deputies to make changes in relation to the text defended by the government.

“The guy can have a good idea, it’s not just the government that can have a good idea. Sometimes a guy presents a suggestion in a provisional measure, in a PL, better than the government presented. So, that’s an agreement and it’s voted and you need to convince the majority”, he said.

The president also praised the work of the rapporteur, deputy Aguinaldo Ribeiro (PP-PB), and recalled that he was Minister of Cities in the government of Dilma Rousseff (PT).
