Lula calls on militancy to mobilize against ‘coups’ – 06/28/2023 – Politics

President Lula (PT) called on his militancy to mobilize to prevent a “coup” being carried out again, in reference to the impeachment of former president Dilma Rousseff (PT) and the invasion and depredation of the headquarters of the three Powers on January 8 this year.

This statement was made this Tuesday (28) at an event at the Planalto Palace with the presence of the MST (Movimento Sem Terra) and other social movements.

“If you actively participate, no one will ever get involved in a coup like they did with Dilma or the way it was done on January 8,” he said.

The statement took place shortly before sending a hint to former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), but without mentioning him by name.

“You see that, unlike other presidents, I am not ordering you to buy weapons, because they said to buy them to defend democracy. I want you to produce as much as you can produce of the highest quality food because the great weapon that the country needs is people with full bellies,” he said.

This is not the first time that Lula has referred to Dilma’s impeachment as a “coup”. This also occurred, among other opportunities, at the event at Palácio do Planalto in celebration of Women’s Day in March.

“A process that began in 2003, when she won elections, continued when Dilma won in 2010. But it is a process that you can see suffered a huge setback after the 2016 coup with Dilma and suffered an even greater blow after the thing was elected president of the Republic of that country,” he said, referring to Bolsonaro.

Dilma had her mandate revoked in 2016 in an impeachment process that was carried out in the House and Senate. Both Houses considered that the then president committed a crime of responsibility for the so-called “fiscal pedaling”, with the opening of budgetary credit without the approval of Congress. The decision, in the process and on the merits, was accompanied without contestation by the STF (Federal Supreme Court).
