Lula calls Moraes’ alleged aggressor a “scoundrel” and “swindler”

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) once again aimed artillery at the alleged aggressors of Minister Alexandre de Moraes during a discussion at the airport in Rome, Italy, just over two weeks ago. During the weekly live “Conversation with the President” this Tuesday (25), he called him a “scoundrel”, in reference to the couple Roberto and Andreia Mantovani and their son-in-law, Alex Zanatta, appointed as authors of the offenses against the magistrate and his son.
“When what happened to Alexandre de Moraes at the Rome airport happens, I think that a citizen who does that is not a human being that you can have respect for. He is a scoundrel, because he needed to be at least polite. The minister was with his wife and son,” said Lula.
He also stated that if “it is fashionable” to curse the STF minister for voting something that “he does not like”, “there will no longer be peace in Brazil”. “That is, the vote will have to be secret so that nobody knows what the minister voted for”, he added.
Lula said that, “unfortunately”, there are still “workers, businessmen and bankers” who live in the past, and that people who provoke authorities are “fraudsters” who respond to a lawsuit in court. “Every time you enter a place and someone provokes you, that someone is 171 [artigo do Código Penal que tipifica o crime de estelionato]made some mistake, some crime, has already been prosecuted,” he said.
The president also questioned “what is the right of the citizen to think that he can curse, offend, slap, call him a thief without proof?” and completed by saying that “we can’t play with these things”.
The Federal Police hopes to receive, later this week, the images recorded from the internal security circuit at the airport in Rome to clarify the circumstances of the alleged aggression against the minister and his son. The recordings are already in Interpol’s possession and are only awaiting the formal release of the Italian Justice to release them to the Brazilian authorities.
Last week, the defense of the suspects handed over to the PF a video that would have been recorded during the alleged aggression, in which Moraes would have gone to the family to remove his son from the mess and said that “there would be consequences”, after photographing them.
