Lula calls Bolsonaro a ‘sabidinho’ who wanted a coup – 06/29/2023 – Politics

President Lula (PT) attacked this Thursday (29) his predecessor in office, Jair Bolsonaro (PL), stating that he was a “sabidinho” and a “little citizen” who wanted to carry out a coup d’état by not accepting the election results.

The statement was given on the day Bolsonaro may become ineligible, with the third day of trial at the TSE (Superior Electoral Court). Anti-democratic actions by the former president were considered in the vote of the rapporteur for the action, Minister Benedito Gonçalves.

Lula gave an interview this Thursday morning to Rádio Gaúcha, the main broadcaster in Rio Grande do Sul. The president is going to visit the state this Friday (30), where he has an agenda in the capital Porto Alegre and also in Viamão.

The lines against Jair Bolsonaro happened at a time when the president was questioned about why he and other members of his government did not recognize that the regime of Nicolás Maduro, in Venezuela, was not a democracy.

Lula then pointed out that that country had more elections than Brazil in recent years. And he diverted the focus and started talking about Brazilian internal politics, about the coup acts of January 8th. Then she went on to criticize Bolsonaro, though without naming him.

“Didn’t we have a citizen here, a wise guy who didn’t want to accept the election result? Didn’t we have a citizen here who wanted to stage a coup on January 8? There are people who don’t want to accept the election result”, said the president, adding that he he was defeated by Fernando Collor and Fernando Henrique Cardoso and accepted the result of the elections.

At another time, he resumed criticism against Bolsonaro, stating that the former president still criticizes the seriousness of electronic voting machines. Criticism of the ballot boxes, in particular the meeting with ambassadors to attack the Brazilian electoral system, is precisely the focus of the PDT action that could make the former president ineligible.

This Thursday morning (29), the TSE returned to judge the action that could make Bolsonaro ineligible.

On Tuesday (27), the TSE’s general inspector, Benedito Gonçalves, voted to make the former president ineligible until 2030.

Filed by the PDT, the action accuses Bolsonaro of having committed abuse of power and misuse of the media at the meeting with ambassadors in July 2022. At the time, the then president made false and distorted statements about the electoral process.

General Inspector Benedito Gonçalves stated that it is not possible to turn a blind eye to anti-democratic speeches with lies and violent speeches, criticized the trivialization of the coup d’état and highlighted the former president’s epic attacks using the image of the Armed Forces.
